My Internship At New York University - 1022 Words

Chris told me everything about his firm and his lifestyle there. I work in a financial advising firm that specializes in comprehensive financial planning for their clients. I majored in finance at New York University because I wanted to make a lot of money, and why not make a lot of money for others on the way. I am at my current job because of an internship I did in the summer before my senior year. It was my first internship in finance because I really did not know what I wanted to do in the field. Some of my friends wanted to be investment bankers or go into corporate finance, but that industry did not seem to interest me as much as it did for them. During my junior year, I interviewed for Merrill Lynch, and secured the internship. The summer was great and I was given an offer to return full-time as an analyst. I think they gave me an offer over others because I got close with many of the people above me. I networked extensively, trying to get coffee and chat with associates and a nalysts just to pick their brain and really get to know everyone. I always made time to chat with them because I knew that my supervisor would ask them about me; it was also a great time to learn from their experiences. I remember some of the other interns only communicated with analysts and associates about work. They didn’t take the time to develop a genuine relationship with them and I believe that is why I was chosen over some of them.
